Application Process

  

The application process for GVRS is very streamlined. Below are the steps of the application process:


1. Complete and submit a membership application


2. Interview with membership committee

a. Upon meeting with the committee the following must be submitted:

i. A driving transcript no older than 60 days (only if you are 18 years or older)

ii. Completed or registered for fingerprints


3. Upon a favorable vote from the membership you will be approved for membership


Each member must submit to a state and national background check as required by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services. This process has NO COST associated with it. You must register at a Field Print location to have your finger prints completed.

Membership Types

Junior Rescue Squad

  

  1. The Junior Rescue Squad is designed for students who are in High School ages 16 – 21 years of age.   
  2. Junior Members are required to pull 24 hours per month.  Junior Members may continue their membership after High School if they are in school. 
  3. Once a Junior Member enrolls in college, they are required to pull 12 hours on each of their breaks from college (spring summer, fall & winter break). 
  4. Junior Members are required to possess a valid CPR/AED certification for the Healthcare Provider. 
  5. Once a Junior Member reaches the age of 18, s/he are encouraged to obtain their EVOC certification at which point they may operate our fleet in emergency situations.


All training for Junior Members is provided at no cost to them.

Senior Rescue Squad

  

  1. The Senior Rescue Squad has one type of membership and requires members pull 24 hours each month. 
  2. Senior Members have the right to vote, hold office and are eligible to receive personal property tax relief on one of their vehicles. 
  3. Senior Members at a minimum are required to possess a valid driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia with positive points (+1 or higher). Also, Senior Members must possess a valid EVOC, CPR certification.
  4. All Senior Members are required to attend monthly meetings and drills.


 All training is provided to members at no cost to them.
